Placerita Canyon Nature Center

Everyone loves animals. We keep cute ones in our homes and gaze excitedly at the exotic types at the zoo. Yet, as we go through the daily grind of work, home and sleep, it’s easy to ignore the wild side of our own cities! Living in those canyons, woodland stretches and landscapes of our community are wild animals! Lucky for Santa Clarita Valley, the Placerita Canyon Nature Center in Newhall works to keep us not only informed but also entertained by the wildlife we so often forget. Even better, this upcoming weekend, the Center is packed with three events to get you back in tune with the natural world.

Discover Three Events at the Placerita Canyon Nature Center

Starting on Saturday, you can visit the nature center for two separate family-friendly experiences. Beginning at 11:00 AM, you can go for an easy, docent-led Nature Walk. Breathe in the earthy environment, and maybe your eye will catch a wild animal or two. If you want more of a live animal experience, then come by the Nature Center at 1:00 PM for their Native Live Animal Presentation. Even better, both events are free and occur every Saturday!

Placerita Canyon Nature CenterAs an additional weekend treat, the Placerita Canyon Nature Center is continuing their Community Nature Series this Sunday, February 19th, at 2:00 PM. So far, each third Sunday of the month, they’ve shared valuable information on wolves, condors and even urban bears! This time around, the Center has invited Dana Stangel, who you may know as the executive director of Teranga Ranch, to give an exciting presentation on a few animals that have earned the respect and fascination of many seasoned hikers: Coyotes, Bobcats and Gray Foxes. Maybe you can stick around afterward for a self-guided nature walk on one of the Nature Center’s trails.

So this weekend, explore a new way to relax by getting in touch with nature and animals!

The Placerita Canyon Nature Center can be found at 19152 Placerita Canyon Road, Newhall, California 91321.
